One of Kingdom’s security officers, Daniel Ciminera, took part in a charity white collar boxing match on Sunday 5th April to raise money to fight cancer. Daniel has provided hospital security at the Gloucester Royal Hospital since August 2014.
The black tie event took place at Hatherley Manor and was organised by Ultra White Collar Boxing. It allowed amateur boxers the chance to perform in front of a live audience and included entrance music and entertainment such as fire eaters and ring girls. The bouts were for three rounds of two minutes with one minute intervals.
Participants, including Dan, received eight weeks of free intense training, starting on February 9th, from professional boxers. Participants were given 16oz gloves and full headgear. It was open to complete beginners to the sport and to people aged between 18 and 65.
Dan took part in the charity event to get into better shape and in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research. They fight cancer on all fronts, finding new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat it to save lives. They are entirely funded by the public.
Ultra White Collar Boxing began in Derby five years ago, and founder Jon Leonard has since taken the events to cities across the UK. Ultra White Collar Boxing raised £560,000 for Cancer Research UK last year, and is hoping to raise £1million for Cancer Research to help fund a lab in Leicester.
Dan decided to help raise money to fight cancer as he has been personally affected by cancer among family and friends. Each boxer was required to set up a Just Giving page and aim to raise at least £50 for Cancer Research UK. Dan has raised £385.93 so far, which is well above his £350 target, and he still has more donations to come in.
