Kingdom given record score once again in major audit

sia-approved-contractorAs we reach the end of September 17 it is that time of year again when Kingdom has their annual audit for the SIA (Security Industry Authority) ACS (Approved Contractor Scheme) assessment.

Kingdom has been taking part in this scheme for the last eleven years, and every year we are proud to say that we have improved our score on the year before.

We are delighted to say that 2017 is no exception to that rule! In 2015 we received a record score of +161. Last year in 2016 we beat that score, achieving +167 out of a possible maximum score of +174. This year we have gone one better, achieving an incredible score of +168 out of +174, our highest ever score, and just 6 points away from the very highest score that it is possible to achieve. This outstanding result places us in the top 1% of security companies audited, meaning we are officially one of the very best security companies in the entire UK.

We were particularly pleased with this result as the Approved Contractors Schemes’ requirements for ACS scoring has changed this year to make it much more difficult to achieve a high score, and because some of the points in the audit are not feasible in the current environment for Kingdom to achieve. We feel that this result demonstrates not only the strengths of our company as a whole, but most importantly the colleagues within it, and we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone in Kingdom who has contributed towards this excellent result.

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the organisation responsible for regulating the private security industry. It is an independent body that reports to the Home Office and covers the whole of the United Kingdom. The SIA has two main duties. The first is the compulsory licensing of individuals that undertake specific activities within the private security industry. This includes manned guarding (including security guarding, door supervision, close protection, cash and valuables in transit, and public space surveillance using CCTV) and key holding. Being licensed by the SIA means that private security operatives are ‘fit and proper’ persons who are properly trained and qualified to do their job.

The other key role of the SIA is to manage the Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS). This is a voluntary scheme and was established by the SIA to form a set of operational and performance standards for private security companies, measuring them against independently assessed criteria. The objective of the Approved Contractor Scheme, according to their website, is to “raise performance standards and to assist the private security industry in developing new opportunities.” It gives organisations the opportunity to distinguish themselves as being among the best providers of private security services in the UK, and thus gives their clients confidence and trust in them. We are delighted each year to take advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate that we are among the very best security companies in the whole country.

To be accredited under the scheme, security companies must voluntarily submit themselves for annual inspection by one of UKAS inspection bodies appointed by the SIA to carry out the task. They are then assessed and given a score. They must achieve a score of at least zero (which is a minimum score) to receive ACS accreditation.

Kingdom’s annual inspection was carried out in the weeks commencing 11th and 18th September 2017, with assessments carried out on sites and in our offices. The auditor interviewed a total of 41 licensed colleagues across eight different locations and was very impressed with her findings.

Commenting on this outstanding result for Kingdom, CEO and founder Terry Barton BA (Hons) said: A fantastic result achieved again and for the 11th year running. This is a result of hard work and effort from all at Kingdom and a result we should all be very proud of. The criteria had changed this year making it harder to maintain previous scores but to exceed last year’s score is an even better achievement and demonstrates our success as an organisation.
