Kingdom rises to the challenge at IKEA Reading opening

clip_image002IKEA, the world’s largest furniture retailer and one of Kingdom’s clients, opened their newest UK store last week, and a team of 30 plus Kingdom Officers were pleased to be on hand to help make the event a success.

IKEA’s 19th UK store, IKEA Reading, officially opened to the public on Thursday 14th July, with the grand opening carrying on over four days until Sunday 17th July. In addition to this there were also events in the days leading up to the official opening, including a VIP event on Monday 11th and a friends and family day on Tuesday 12th, meaning that it was effectively an opening week.

Less than two weeks before the opening week, Kingdom was asked if they could supply an events team of 35 officers per day for seven days to provide security for the week’s events, which Kingdom was pleased to do.

Kingdom’s John Barrett, Business Manager for the South, said: “Operationally it is no small task to get 35 officers and a management team in place at short notice for a seven day period, but Kingdom did it and received glowing commendations from their client for their officers’ professionalism and engagement. Once again this showed that Kingdom can achieve great things, even at very short notice. It also demonstrated the importance of the IKEA contract to us and the importance of effective leadership, which the security industry overlooks at their peril.”

Following the opening, IKEA’s Deputy Country Risk Manager, Christian Featherstone, said:

To an individual, I witnessed a high level of competence as well as an excellent level of engagement and customer service. This is because of its key location and also because the new product lines and services that they will be testing there are not seen at any other stores in the world.
