Kingdom’s Andy Howe receives Freedom of the City of London

IMG_0652Many congratulations to Kingdom’s Andy Howe, who on Wednesday 7th February 2018 was elected as a Freeman of the City of London, and is, as far as we are aware, the first Kingdom colleague to be awarded the Freedom of the City of London.

Andy (pictured centre in the top image and on the right in the second image) has been with Kingdom since September 2015 when he joined the company as a security consultant, having served as a police officer in the Metropolitan Police Service for 32 years. He retired with the rank of Superintendent. Andy is now our Head of Risk & Mitigation.

The ceremony in which Andy received the Freedom of the City of London is one of the oldest surviving ceremonies still in existence today. It is believed that it was first carried out as long ago as 1237. Although many of the historical practical reasons for obtaining the Freedom of the City have long since disappeared, it remains a unique part of London’s history to which many people who lived or worked in the City have been proud to be admitted.

Sadly, it is now limited to half a day in October, and only about 100 yards from the north side of the bridge, as the Metropolitan Police refuse to allow any more access! Andy is pictured below with his sheep.

Before receiving the Freedom of the City of London, Andy became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals last year, on the 7th June 2017, having joined as a Member representing Kingdom in 2016. The Worshipful Company of Security Professionals is a well-respected and supportive Livery Company of the Lord Mayor and the City of London. Membership of the Company is drawn from the security industry in its widest sense and includes leading security professionals from the industrial and retail sectors, serving and retired members of the police and armed services, security consultants, academics, heads of security for corporate businesses, investigators and electronic surveillance practitioners.

IMG_0671Members of the Company benefit first and foremost by being able to give something back to the Security Profession and by supporting its educational and charitable works. They can also take advantage of the networking opportunities the Company’s events provide, by attending formal Company luncheons and dinners, sporting events and other informal gatherings where they will meet and socialise with like-minded people. They may go on to become Freemen of the City of London in the same way that Andy has, and Liverymen of the Company.  Liverymen vote in the annual elections of the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs. As well as helping to promote Kingdom within the City of London and Central London as a whole, both among service users and amongst the security industry, Andy makes excellent use of his membership by networking with other security professionals, drawing on their knowledge and experience whilst sharing his to bring new benefits to Kingdom’s clients.
