Kingdom guard raises funds for local maternity ward

20170923_114229Kingdom was very pleased to once again support one of their colleagues, David Lench, with his recent fundraising activities. David is one of Kingdom’s retail security guards at the Cooperative store in Westcliff on Sea.

David took part in a 7km sponsored walk on Sunday 17th September 2017 to raise money for Southend Hospital. There was a good turnout on the day with over 200 people walking to raise money for this very worthy cause. On a day of mixed weather, David completed the 7km walk in 80 minutes. The walk was along Southend seafront, going from Shoeburyness (an old army barracks town), past the longest pleasure pier in the world, and finishing at Chalkwell.

Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust cares for more than 380,000 patients each year. It’s the local hospital for the Southend area and beyond, providing a wide range of acute services and specialising in cancer care.

Southend Hospital Charity raises funds to help make a difference for their patients. They make sure all the money donated benefits the specific ward or department that it was designated for, thus helping to provide state-of-the-art medical equipment, improve patient and staff amenities and fund vital research.

Each September the charity arranges a sponsored walk, called Walk for the Wards, along Southend seafront as part of their fundraising activities. The walkers can choose which ward or department they would like the money they raise to go towards.

Kingdom was pleased to sponsor David, having also sponsored him in the same event last year. David wore a curly blond wig to take part, and he chose the hospital’s maternity ward to receive the funds he raised.
