Kingdom's Danny Jones receives award for saving a life

Kingdom is very proud of one of its officers, Danny Jones, who has been recognised with an award at this year’s ACS Pacesetters Security Officer of Distinction Awards.

The awards were presented to officers who have excelled in their duties and, at times, have risked their own safety to save others. Only 14 awards were given out to security officers from across the whole of the UK.

Danny provides services to Kingdom’s longstanding client, Home Group Stonham, and was recommended for his award by the manager of the organisation. Home Group Stonham provides interim accommodation for vulnerable young people. Their recommendation was endorsed by Kingdom, and after being shortlisted, Danny was selected for an award by the main sponsors of the event.

The ACS Pacesetters website explains why Danny was nominated for and subsequently won his award:

“In January this year, Danny became concerned for one of the residents, a 17 years old female, who he had noticed was withdrawn and tearful. After making discreet enquiries, he decided he should conduct an urgent welfare check.

“Accompanied by another resident, he knocked on the door, but the female responded in a vague manner. “Danny talked to her through the door and her replies caused him concern, so using the master key he unlocked the door where he found her hanging from a doorknob with a holdall strap around her neck. He immediately supported her weight removing the holdall strap and then placed her in the recovery position prior to calling an ambulance.

“There is no doubt that Danny’s actions saved the life of a vulnerable young adult.”

Danny was presented with his award at the 2017 Security Officer of Distinction Awards, which were held at The ACS Pacesetters Lunch at the Royal Windsor Racecourse on Wednesday 24th May 2017 in the Riverside Pavillion. The award was presented to Danny by Mr Chas Staines, Director of Continuancy Limited, in front of almost 200 members, their staff and guests.

As was the case with Danny, all of the winning security officers were recommended for their awards by the clients for whom they work, endorsed by the contract company and ultimately selected by the main sponsors of the event.

According to the ACS Pacesetters website, “the standard of nomination this year was exceptional and it was a very difficult task to reach the final winners. The security officers had gone above and beyond what was expected saving lives, helping in the conviction of criminals and being injured themselves in the line of duty. All the winners were of great credit to their company and the client they are contracted to. It was an honour to be able to recognise their heroic actions.”

Run by FM Contract Watch, this was the fourth time that this annual awards ceremony has taken place, and it is now a recognised event in the security guarding calendar. Kingdom is extremely proud that their officers have now won awards at three of the four awards ceremonies. Grzegorz Stalmach and James Kelly MBE both won awards in 2016, and Stuart House won an award at the inaugural event in 2014.

Commenting on Danny’s award, Kingdom’s Chief Operating Officer Mark Wallace (pictured right with Danny) said: “It wasn’t until the awards started and you hear some of the stories do you really accept the magnitude of this award. To hear Danny’s story totally humbles you and Danny himself is such a lovely and unassuming guy I don’t think he actually realises the magnitude of his heroics. Well done Danny.”
