Kingdom Drax team taking on Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

15 Kingdom colleagues are to take part in the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on Saturday 1st July to raise money for charity, and Kingdom is very pleased to be supporting this huge team effort.

The team will be wearing t-shirts on the day with the Kingdom logo saying “Kingdom Conquers the Three Peaks”.

Explaining why they are undertaking this challenge, Emma England, Security Admin Assistant at Drax, said:

“This year we wanted to arrange a day out for our team and give ourselves a challenge whilst raising money for charity. As a few of us enjoy our own walking adventures and keeping active we soon came up with the idea of completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge. We are confident that we can accomplish it with a little grit, determination and team work.”

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is set in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside and is a demanding but also incredibly rewarding challenge. The route is 24 miles long with a whopping total accent of 5,200 feet (1,585m). To complete the challenge, the team must conquer the heights of Pen-y-ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres) in that order and in less than 12 hours. The three peaks form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Explaining why they are fundraising for their chosen charity, Emma said: “Once we had set upon our challenge we set our heads together to choose a charity to raise money. Children’s charity Candlelighters soon became a favourite, as it is especially close to the heart of one of our colleagues as they lost a young friend to cancer last year at the age of only 18.”

Candlelighters is a Yorkshire based charity supporting children with cancer and their families. They offer practical, emotional and financial support to all the 150 children diagnosed with cancer every year in the county. They provide support to these families in the following ways:
  • Providing Play Leader on the Inpatient Ward, Outpatient Clinic and radiotherapy department at the Children’s Hospital in Leeds, as well as social workers who support the families
  • Every family with a child under treatment is offered a holiday
  • Funding into local research about childhood cancer
They also have a Family Support Centre which offers a haven way from the hospital environment where families can go for physical and emotional support. They organise groups for parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters including taking siblings on days out to give them the support they require too.
