The University was formed in April 2013 by the merger of the University of Glamorgan and the University of Wales, Newport, but can trace its roots back to the founding of the Newport Mechanics’ Institute in 1841. These courses are designed to increase the skills and employability of their students and this is considered to be one of the reasons why 94% of USW students are either in employment of further study within six months of graduating.
