Kingdom success continues in Wrexham

clip_image002Recent articles in local publications have highlighted the success that Kingdom is having tackling littering and dog fouling in Wrexham on behalf of the County Borough Council.

An article on Wrexham.com entitled “Littering & Dog Fouling Crackdown Sees Over £33k Issued in Fines During October” announced that Kingdom’s Environmental Protection officers issued a total of 442 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) in October for littering, dog fouling and dog control orders. This was a total of £33,150, with offenders issued with £75 fines each. More than three quarters of those who were issued with FPNs paid the fine within 14 days of receiving it.

Another article in News North Wales entitled “Irresponsible dog owners are now paying the price in Wrexham” explained that Kingdom has also been taking extra steps to tackle dog fouling, having increased their patrols around Country Parks and identifying hotspot areas. Changes have also been made to the deployment of officers to help tackle the problem, with patrols starting at 6am and not finishing until 9pm as part of the effort to deal with this anti-social behaviour.

Cllr David A Bithell, Wrexham Council’s lead member for environment and transport, said: “I’m very pleased to see that increased patrols have led to an increase in penalties. Whether it’s dog fouling or violation of the dog control orders, the behaviour of irresponsible dog owners who fail to pick up after their animals can lead to a very unsightly blight on our communities.

“Not to penalise such behaviour would be unfair on the vast majority of well-behaved and responsible dog owners who abide by the proper rules and clean up after their pets. I would also encourage any members of the public who know of dog fouling hotspots to get in touch and report such incidents.”

Kingdom started tackling littering and dog fouling in Wrexham in April 2016. As well as issuing Fixed Penalty Notices to offenders, Kingdom also runs a “Bin it to Win it” campaign which aims to encourage people to dispose of their litter properly. The scheme gives people who are spotted by Kingdom’s officers putting their litter in the bin the chance to be entered into a monthly prize draw for £50 of local shopping vouchers.
