Kingdom has been praised by their client, the world’s largest furniture retailer IKEA, following a major audit which was recently conducted on Kingdom by the well known multinational company.
Kingdom provides IKEA with a unique security service which has been tailored specifically to match the IKEA environment and work ethos.
Kingdom has provided retail security to all of IKEA’s stores in the UK (including Belfast), as well as their two distribution centres for six years now, having first started providing security to the company in the UK in 2010. In 2014 it was announced that Kingdom would be the sole security provider to IKEA in the UK.
The recent audit was carried out because IKEA has a set of standards and ethics which they trade by which is known as the IWAY Standard or the IKEA Way on Purchasing Products, Materials and Services. This document sets out IKEA’s minimum requirements relating to the environment and social & working conditions (including child labour) for any company, corporation or individual from which they purchase products, components, materials and services. IWAY is therefore the Code of Conduct for IKEA’s suppliers and at the heart of it are the values of trust, integrity and honesty.
Essentially, IKEA recognises that their business has an impact on both social and environmental issues, in particular people’s working conditions and the local and global environment. Their aim therefore is that “the IKEA business shall have an overall positive impact on people and the environment”, and that they will “do good business whilst being a good business”. They believe that this is an essential “pre-condition to our future growth, a growth that will be achieved along with suppliers that share the same vision and ambition.” They therefore expect all of their suppliers to comply with these standards and ethics as well. Kingdom very much does so, and is proud to embrace the principles outlined in the IWAY Standard.
In order to make sure that all of their suppliers are complying with IWAY, IKEA regularly carries out an audit. Kingdom had one of these audits recently, with IKEA using the audit as an opportunity to train new auditors from a range of countries, including Germany, Sweden, India, Spain, the USA, France and China. Kingdom was honoured to play host to this wide range of international visitors, with an audit which included a site visit to IKEA’s store in Leeds, as well as to Kingdom’s new National Support Centre in Newton-le-Willows. The auditors were particularly impressed with Kingdom’s new building, and the IWAY trainee audit team commented that Kingdom is “top of the game” and that “you will not see this partnership approach from many suppliers”. A number of Kingdom colleagues were interviewed by IKEA and received praise. Following the audit IKEA thanked Kingdom for hosting the training exercise and presented Kingdom’s Sales Compliance Manager Jenny Baron with an engraved trophy and chocolates. The top photo shows Jenny with the engraved trophy.
IKEA is a multinational group of companies that designs and sells ready-to-assemble furniture, appliances and home accessories, and since January 2008 has been the world’s largest furniture retailer. The company was founded in Sweden in 1943 by the then 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad, and the acronym IKEA stands for Ingvar Kamprad, Elmtaryd (the name of the farm where he grew up) Agunnardyd (his home town in south Sweden).
IKEA now has 389 stores in 48 countries. Their vision is “to create a better everyday life for the many people”, and their business idea is “to offer a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible will be able to afford them”.
