Huge congratulations to Kingdom’s Shaun Blanchard, security supervisor at the Malls shopping centre in Basingstoke, who has so far raised over £900 for charity after taking part in and successfully completing the London 2 Paris 24 2016 bike ride.
Kingdom was very pleased to sponsor and support Shaun, who cycled the 280 miles from capital city to capital city in 23 hours and 42 minutes on the 16th and 17th July with 18 minutes to spare on the 24 hour target! This epic effort was to raise money for the disability charity Scope.
Shaun’s cycle ride started at lunch time on Saturday 16th at Blackheath in London when he and 148 other cyclists took part in a 90 mile dash through the countryside to Dover. There they caught a ferry (that wasn’t going to wait!) and then cycled all through the night down through France. They finally finished at lunchtime the next day at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. This was not a race but was instead an endurance cycle challenge which aimed to test the cyclists’ determination and stamina. The route was broken down into seven 40 mile stages and included 12,100 feet of climbing. More information about the cycle ride itself can be found on http://www.london2paris24.com/
Speaking about his fundraising endeavour, Shaun said: “It was both a fantastic and a gruelling experience, and one that I would love to do again! When riding throughout the night stages, which was the toughest part, I was just thinking about all the amazing people who sponsored me and what their money is going to do for Scope and all involved. Thank you to everyone who supported me.”
Shaun took part with his best friend Ryan, and Ryan’s nephew Maison. His target was to raise £1000 for this very worthy cause, and so far he is just shy of that at 93% of his target - £930.51. If you would like to sponsor Shaun and donate money to Scope it is not too late – any contributions big or small will be very much appreciated. You can do so via Shaun’s JustGiving page - https://www.justgiving.com/Shaun-Blanchard24. Making a donation through JustGiving is simple, fast and secure, and once you donate they send your money directly to the charity, making it the most efficient way to donate, saving time and cutting costs for the charity. There you can also find out more about Shaun’s fundraising efforts and the work that Scope does.
Scope, in their own words, “is a charity that exists to make this country a place where disabled people have the same opportunities as everyone else. Until then, we’ll be here”. Scope provides support, information and advice to more than a quarter of a million disabled people and their families every year, raising awareness of important of important issues.
