Kingdom has recently taken over the CCTV centre of Hillingdon Borough Council.
Kingdom has provided front of house and static guarding services to this client for a number of years and recently had their contract renewed. As part of the new contract, Kingdom took over the Hillingdon Borough Council CCTV centre from 1st June 2016.
In the mobilisation run up to taking over the CCTV centre, Kingdom has had to take steps to ensure that they run the CCTV centre professionally and that they are compliant with all necessary legislation. Setting this up was very different to providing security guarding, as there was a lot more relevant legislation which had to be satisfied. This included the Private Security Act 2001, the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Human Rights Act 2004. A specific licence also had to be obtained before they could even start preparing. Kingdom therefore had to work closely with their client to ensure that they were compliant, as public space CCTV monitoring is a minefield of compliance and regulation with incredibly severe fines and jail terms for those found to be non-compliant.
It helped tremendously that Kingdom’s John Barrett (Business Manager – South) had previous experience running Westminster Council’s CCTV centre. John has worked in the security industry for 17 years, working for Securitas, Chubb and Sunwin/Co-op before joining Kingdom in February 2015. He was therefore well placed to provide advice on what needed to be done.
This very much demonstrated what Kingdom can achieve through working together as a team. Commenting on the process, Kingdom’s John Barrett said: “This really was a team effort. The operations team could not have got there without the support of pretty much every department in Kingdom, but from my point of view special thanks should go to Chloe for organising training and Suzie who was an absolute star with chasing the SIA and dealing with out multiple licence applications in a very tight time scale.”
Since taking over the CCTV centre, Kingdom has already been praised for helping the police to capture an armed criminal. A superintendant of the Metropolitan Police said: “Huge thanks from me regarding your work yesterday evening in securing the arrest of a dangerous offender. Brilliant work indeed. Thank you.” The Chief of Operations for Hillingdon Borough at the Metropolitan Police added: “I was on duty at the time and heard the commentary by the CCTV operator live. Excellent – please pass on our thanks.” Kingdom’s client has added: “Please pass on my thanks to your team; excellent work in securing the arrest.”
