Kingdom launches “Bin it to Win it” campaign in Wrexham

clip_image002Kingdom is very pleased to be introducing the “Bin it to Win it” initiative in Wrexham. This means that both residents and visitors to Wrexham could soon be in line for a £50 reward for disposing of their litter responsibly.

The way the scheme works is that members of the public who are spotted by one of the regular Kingdom Environmental Protection officers putting their litter in a bin will be given an entry form in order to be entered into a monthly prize draw. This will give them the chance to win £50 in local shopping vouchers.

The scheme is effectively a “carrot” to encourage people to dispose of their litter responsibly by rewarding them, alongside the “stick” of issuing £75 fines to dog owners who refuse to cleaner after their dogs and those who refuse to use a bin for their litter.

Kingdom provides Environmental Protection Services in Wrexham on behalf of Wrexham Council. They have been tackling litter and dog fouling in on the streets and in the parks of the County Borough of Wrexham since 1st April this year as part of the council’s zero tolerance approach to litter and dog fouling, and in their first month alone they issued 630 tickets for littering or dog fouling.

Kingdom’s Environmental Protection Division aims to make our environment cleaner, safer and greener. The specialist teams are led by experts with an ex-police and military background. They deliver over 270,000 Environmental Protection hours per annum on behalf of local authorities across the UK. They issue fixed penalty notices (FPNs) to offenders who are seen breaking the Environmental Protection Act 1990 in streets, parks and open spaces, therefore successfully reducing anti-social behaviour. Kingdom’s Environmental Protection team tackle street litter, dog fouling and control orders, commercial and residential waste and waste disposal licence checks, smoking in prohibited areas, the illegal distribution of free material, criminal damage, graffiti, fly tipping and posting.

Commenting on the new initiative, Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: "The Bin it to Win it initiative has been very successful in other areas and we have agreed to try it in Wrexham.  Kingdom officers are regularly seeing visitors and residents using bins and it is only right that such instances are rewarded."

Cllr Bithell added: "We will continue to have a zero tolerance approach to littering, ignoring dog control order zones or to not picking up after your dog has fouled.  Our message has been clear from the start if you dispose of litter, observe dog control area signs and pick up after your dog has fouled you have nothing to fear."

Ashley Houston, Team Leader for Kingdom, said: Kingdom have welcomed the opportunity to start the “Bin it to Win it” scheme in an attempt to not only reward responsible members of the public but to win support and give the community something back.  Whilst patrolling the area our officers have witnessed a high number of responsible dog walkers picking up after their dogs and people going out their way to use a bin. We believe the “Bin it to Win it” scheme will be powerful way to reward the public and also to educate, raise awareness of our patrols and pass the word around the community.”
