Kingdom sponsoring employee’s charity bike ride

clip_image002Kingdom is very pleased to be sponsoring one of their employees who will be taking part in a charity bike ride later this year.

Kingdom’s Shaun Blanchard is taking part in the London to Paris 24 bike ride, which will take place on the 16th and 17th July 2016. Shaun is a security supervisor at the Malls shopping centre in Basingstoke.

Shaun will cycle the 280 miles from capital city to capital city in just 24 hours in order to raise money for the disability charity Scope. His epic cycle ride will start on the Saturday lunch time at Blackheath in London. Shaun and around 300 other cyclists will first take part in a 90 mile dash through the countryside to Dover for a ferry that won’t wait, before cycling through the night through France and finally finishing at lunchtime the next day at the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It is not a race but an endurance cycle challenge which will test the cyclists’ determination and stamina. The route will be broken down into seven 40 mile stages and will include 12,100 feet of climbing! More information about the cycle ride itself can be found on http://www.london2paris24.com/

Shaun’s wife Claire suffers from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and was diagnosed with the disease 7 years ago. The couple have two beautiful girls – Sommer who is 7 and Brooke who is 5. Because of Claire’s illness, Shaun has helped to raise money for the MS Society, and has to date raised nearly £3,000 for the charity. His fundraising efforts have included taking part in the 2015 London Marathon, which he completed in 4 hours and 24 minutes. Speaking about why he got involved with fundraising for the charity, Shaun says: “The effects of the disease are just terrible for the person it is happening to as well as for the loved ones who can only sit and watch it happening. This was the main reason as to why I wanted to start raising money for the charity.”

Commenting on his latest fundraising endeavour, Shaun said: “This is a huge task as well as a personal goal of mine, but I feel I am ready to take on this challenge. I have always been a keen cyclist and I commute to work most days. I have always tried to keep myself fit and I like to try and set myself challenges to complete as this helps to keep me active. This is just another challenge that I have set myself and if I can raise money along the way to help this fantastic charity then it makes it feel a whole lot more worth it. My aim is to try and raise £1,000, so any contributions big or small will be very much appreciated.” Shaun will be taking part with his best friend Ryan, and Ryan’s nephew Maison. Shaun has so far raised £80 towards his £1,000 target with five months still to go. Kingdom will keep you updated on his progress!
