David has been the night security officer employed by the Portsmouth Estates, Farleigh Wallop, Basingstoke, Hampshire for several years, initially starting as a Mobile Inspector and now fully operational as the dedicated Security Patrol Driver for The Lord Portsmouth Estate, his elevation in position matched by his allocation in vehicles, from a Ford Fiesta to a Ford Ranger.
The letter highlighted a number of occasions recently where he has been of considerable help and assistance to the police in Hampshire, providing the intelligence needed to enable them to successfully capture and prosecute known criminals who have been actively and rather prolifically committing crimes in the South Hampshire Area.
The letter noted that “Mr Ashton has ... been of considerable help and assistance to the Police of this area, so much so that he is a holder of an Area Commanders Certificate of Congratulations presented some years back for his work leading to the arrest and conviction of ‘lead thieves’ targeting an isolated rural primary school, twice.”
It highlighted three recent cases where David had helped to catch criminals, and went on to say that David’s “continued commitment and diligence to his duties is well known throughout the area”, praised him for his “effectiveness and efficiency”, before concluding: “I respectfully wish to make you aware of the valuable and considerable amount of help and assistance that Mr. Ashton continues to provide on a weekly basis to this rural community and to my local officer in particular. He is a credit to your company and worthy of the highest acknowledgement for his dedicated service and outstanding hard work.”
David’s role working for The Lord Portsmouth Estate is rather unique within the security industry. Working in close partnership with the local police, David is responsible for the guarding of a private estate owned by the Queen’s cousin. The estate includes a private family chapel, a listed country seat for the Portsmouth family, a fully operational dairy farm, a village school, a social club, numerous high value properties and over 3,000 acres of pristine rural Hampshire land. The estate is home to Lord and Lady Portsmouth and Lord Lymington, who all live permanently on the estate.
David’s proudest moment as a security operative was when he received the Area Commander’s Award from the Hampshire Constabulary Commissioner in 2013, although the personal letter he received from Lord Portsmouth himself stating “I hope you remain working for us on the estate until the end of your working life” comes a very close second!
David would like to add that he would not have been as successful in his role without the support and advice that he has received from PC Andy Reed, with whom he has worked for ten years. David feels that Andy has not only taught him the legal side of the role but also the country traditions and ways which have given David an insight into the behaviour of legitimate users of the estate and also the means to identify those who use the estate illegitimately.
Outside of work, David enjoys spending time with his family and is a proud family man. He is married with one daughter and three grandchildren – two granddaughters aged 11 and 15, and one grandson aged seven. Recently he has been extremely proud of his 15 year old granddaughter Ebony who has auditioned and been successful in getting a part in the Hilton Theatre (Eastleigh) production of Footloose. David feels that all of his grandchildren are unique and wonderful individuals and he looks forward to being actively involved in their loves and supporting them as they strive to achieve their dreams.
Tracey Boult, Regional Director for Security (South) at Kingdom, added “I have known and worked with Dave on and off for about 15 years. He is, and always has been, loyal, dedicated, vigilant and efficient – an asset for Kingdom”.
